“New Insights on Wertz Collection”
Museum Educator, Emily Uldrich, presents new information, attained through the Charls Wertz catalog, on previously unknown prehistoric archaeological sites.

A Note from Emily:"The pottery bowl is from the Feurt Village Site on the north side of Portsmouth. Charles Wertz assisted in the 1916 excavation of the site, and the bowl was included in William C. Mills' report for the Ohio Archaeological & Historical Society published the following year.
We have radiocarbon dates that suggest Feurt Village was occupied from at least 900-1300 AD during the Fort Ancient Period. The style of this particular bowl suggests that it was made much earlier during a previous occupation of the site in the late Archaic or Early Woodland Period (2000-100 BC)."
